Vocational Education and Training
Vocational Education and Training Leader of Learning – Ms Paula Finlay
We provide the opportunity for students to study a Vocational Education Training (VET) course while completing the Higher School Certificate (HSC). This opportunity allows students to gain credentials from NESA for the HSC, and from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) for a nationally recognised qualification.
VET courses are different from other HSC courses
They:
- are based on national training packages designed to meet industry training needs
- are competency-based assessed
- provide opportunities for practical work-based learning that will assist the student in developing the knowledge and skills required for employment, and further study.
Advantages in studying a VET subject
- National qualifications and skills
- Develops the student's capacity to make decisions and solve problems
- Helps students gain confidence and improve communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills through learning in an adult environment
- Prepares students for the workforce
- Expands post-school opportunities
- Provides the opportunity to trial a career, and helps students explore possible areas of interest, which promotes further study and work choices
- Develops self and time management
- Provides a good balance in a student’s subject selection and course rigour
- Assists the transition from school to work
